How to apply for the CSP credential

Confirm you meet the education requirement
You need a minimum of a bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited institution. Transcripts (in English) will be required at application time.
Confirm your safety work experience
At least 4 years of professional-level safety experience where safety is at least 50% of your role — preventative in nature, with breadth and depth of duties (hazard identification, risk assessment, controls, incident investigation, safety management systems).
Hold a BCSP-qualified credential
You must currently hold a BCSP-qualified credential such as the Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP), CIH, CMIOSH, CRSP, or another credential on BCSP's approved list. See the full list at bcsp.org/CSP.
Create your BCSP account and gather documents
Register at my.bcsp.org and prepare: official transcripts, a detailed job history describing safety duties and percentages of time, supervisor contacts for verification, and proof of your qualifying credential.
Submit the CSP application and pay the fee
Apply online through your BCSP account. Application fee is USD 160 and the exam fee is USD 350 (App+Exam combo USD 494). BCSP also offers exam bundles that include preparation materials.
Wait for eligibility approval
BCSP reviews applications and may request additional documentation. Once approved you receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) with a one-year eligibility window. An extension is available (USD 100) if you can't test within the window.
Schedule your CSP exam at Pearson VUE
Book a seat at a Pearson VUE test center or an online proctored session. Slots fill quickly in major cities — book 4–6 weeks ahead of your target date.
Prepare with ShiKa Exam Prep
Work through practice mode across all CSP domains — advanced sciences and math, safety management systems, ergonomics, fire prevention, emergency response, environmental management, training, law and ethics. Then run at least 3 full-length timed mocks and aim for a consistent 75%+ before scheduling.
Sit the CSP exam
The CSP is a 200-question, multiple-choice, computer-based exam delivered over a 5.5-hour appointment (roughly 5 hours of testing plus tutorial and survey). Pace at ~90 seconds per question and reserve time for a review pass.
Maintain your CSP (recertification)
Pay the annual renewal fee (USD 180) and complete BCSP's Recertification (CoC) point requirements every 5 years — 25 points including at least 0.5 points from an ethics activity — to keep the CSP active.
